Excellent! So good, I had to buy the Second II, which was even better than the first! My favorite part of the movie, "Go get 'em tiger!", you will have to watch to see what I mean.

I loved this movie! Perfectly cast, great adaption to the comic book with many scenes visually right out of the classic comic pages. It took a while to get used to the Green Goblin's new look, but no movie is perfect....Defoe "played" the part perfectly!....but I guess a guy in purple hot pants and an elf hat would look kinda ridiculous in a live action movie!..hhhmmm? This is a popcorn movie all the way and Spider-man 2 was even better....not by much. I really like the first one. I can't wait for Spider-man 3! The 2 disc DVD set has a great transfer and a ton of extras! If you like the movie...BUY IT!

I've always been a Spider-Man fan, and this movie is well done. Excellent retelling of Spider-Man's origin. Brilliant casting Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, and Kirsten Dunst makes a very appealing Mary Jane Watson.
One technicality that probably had been mentioned: the original Spiderman created his own webbing by making web shooters. This led to suspense in the comic books when he runs out of web-fluid. Here, the webs are part of his spider abilities, with no explanation why the "I love you" hand signal releases it. The special effects of the webs were excellent, light years ahead of the late '70's TV series.
Many mentioned that the Green Goblin could have been better. Make-up could probably worked to make the Goblin's face more mobile as in the comics, as opposed to the expressionless metal mask in the movie. But DaFoe made a chilling villain.
One drawback: the final battle between Spidey and the Goblin is faithful to Spiderman #122 ("The Green Goblin's Last Stand"), and also had been done by one of the animated Spiderman series (though the animated had more adapting than the movie did).
I enjoyed the Batman and X-Men movies more, but this still was a very good movie. I liked seeing the sequence of Spidey in action, which made me think of the 1979 Superman movie.

Now I have both movies. Can almost do a Spiderman evening. When I have #3 it will happen.

Everyone's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man starts his beginnings of his superhero life. There are a lot of things to enjoy about Spider-Man such as great characters and villains, plenty of superhero web swings and eye-popping action sequences. Tobey Maguire does a great job and he fits well to Peter Parker. Not only that, yeah, Kirsten Dunst is a show-off, but she does fit her role as Mary Jane Watson -- and even James Franco fits his role as Harry Osborne. This film starts off with Spider-Man going against the Green Goblin, which totally freaked me out as a youngster, but looking at his acting performances and what he did in the film, it was quite well-done. A great superhero movie to enjoy. I did enjoy Spider-Man 2, but not as much as this one, but I will definitely see Spider-Man 3.
