Win A Date With Tad Hamilton! (Widescreen Edition)

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - funny and charming is right
This movie is a great romantic comedy.I think the script is sweet and the casting is good. People should not not want to watch Win a date just because it looks like one of those predictable romantic movies. Win a date should be on everyone's list of must-see movies.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Please O merciful God
I'm starting to wonder..if there truly was a god, why would he have alowwed the creation of this hellish trash. I watched this movie against my will, and was forced to see it start to finish. To save money, why use lethal injection..jus buy a DVD player and pop in this. Is ten times for cruel than anything humanly possible. I know what they means in the bible where the bible they say "and Jesus suffered indescribable torture"..funny, I thought this movir came out recently...
In a rating of one to four stars, I'd rather be flown into burning hot star than watch this again. If writing bad movies was a job, these guys'd be filthy rich.
If I had a choice of smashing my self with a rock or watching this movie, I go out and find the biggest boulder I could and smash away. ...These are where nightmares come from.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Rather Banal and Predictable Teen Flick...
On a whim I rented Win a Date with Tad Hamilton and thought this film might be cute and good for a laugh. Well it started off great! Rosalie is a small town clerk who has a crush on film star Tad Hamilton. On a whim, she enters a contest to win a date with the actor, and, miraculously -she wins! Will Rosie and Tad become an item, or is she destined to be just another of Tad's (many) conquests?

I liked the first half of this film, but the second half had me grinding my teeth at the sheer banality. I wanted to see Tad and Rosie work it out, and perhaps have Tad overcome at least SOME of his superficialness. I like love triangle stories, but why must they be so stereotypical?

And the stereotype that small Towns=Goodness, sweetness and innocence and Big City People=worldly, unscrupulous, and corrupt, is just annoying. Plus I had no sympathy for the putzy grocery store guy who didn't have the guts to express himself to Rosie, and is instantly forgiven for stalking her and reporting her and Tad to the cops? What a swell guy. Seems like quite a catch.

The loser in all of this is of course, Rosalie, who as a rather flat character seems to have no ambitions other than to work as a clerk and try to please both of her rather needy boyfriends. Eh... I guess this 'chick flick' would've been better if it had defied stereotype and had Rosie dump both of these losers and run off too the big bad city to start a film career of her own.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - makes up in charm what it lacks in edge

"Win a Date with Tad Hamilton" is a predictable fairy tale romance that skates by on the cleverness of its premise and the charm of its performances. Kate Bosworth stars as Rosalee Futch, a small town girl from West Virginia who has a mad crush on a hot Hollywood stud named Tad Hamilton. One day she enters a contest on the Internet, the prize being an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles to spend an evening with her dreamboat. Rosalee, of course, wins the contest and has her magic fantasy moment, whereupon she flies back home, expecting to file the experience away in her heart as the high point of her life and then continue her humdrum existence working at the local Piggly Wiggly. What Rosalee doesn't anticipate is that Tad will be so smitten with her genuine goodness and unpretentious nature that he will wind up traveling to West Virginia in order to get to know her better. Complicating matters is the fact that Rosalee's long time friend and boss, Pete, is secretly, madly in love with her and isn't about to give her up without a fight to this fancy, flashy dude from Hollywood.

Given the premise, the makers of this film could, with a bit more self-confidence, have made a keen, hard-edged satire about the role celebrity-worship plays in the lives of ordinary folks. Instead, they've opted to take a softer, less abrasive approach, settling for a more conventional love triangle that still manages to win us over despite the formulaic nature of the story. The best part about "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton" is that it doesn't turn Tad into a boorish, self-centered jerk, which would have been so easy to do. As played by Josh Duhamel, Tad is, instead, a decent, well-meaning, good-natured young man who basically just wants the same thing out of life that we all do, namely love and commitment from that one special person. Even though we know how this triangle will most likely be resolved, the film still generates a certain amount of emotional tension because we actually come to like all three of the characters who make it up. We know Rosalee can't end up with both men, but each, in his own way, appears to be a viable alternative. This spirit of equanimity is not always the case with these types of stories.

Bosworth exudes such a healthy, radiant glow that we don't question for a second why both Tad and Pete are drawn to her. Duhamel pours on the celebrity charm without becoming smarmy and unctuous in the process. And Topher Grace nicely underplays the role of Rosalee's erstwhile secret devotee who faces a rival no Ordinary Joe should ever have to go up against.

"Win a Date with Tad Hamilton" isn't as good as it might have been had it opted for a riskier, edgier tone. But it's not bad as romantic comedies go - and in these days of "Along Came Polly," "Alex and Emma," "Chasing Liberty" et al., that's saying quite a bit indeed.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Cute, fun, extra point for cutting all Paris Hilton scenes
Like others, I was surprised at how much I liked this movie (probably had a lot to do with how cute Kate Bosworth is in it). It has its flaws (the depth of the relationship between Bosworth's character and Pete isn't explored enough) but it succeeds well as a romantic comedy with a nice message to it.

If you watch the extras you'll notice that all Paris Hilton's scenes were deleted (or at least I didn't notice any that remained). I give the movie extra points for this!
